I can’t really post to Facebook anymore. At least as myself on my individual personal account.

Why? Because Meta has decided to tie all business Facebook & Instagram accounts and integrations to the existence of a single personal account.

It creates a potential single point of failure (and you probably already know that I hate single points of failure.)

Mess up and get that personal account banned (even if it’s a mistake made by automation) and your business accounts are now inaccessible to you. And the frequency at which people are triggering accidental bans or temporary bans has increased over the years.

But what about fixing things if you didn’t actually post anything bad? Customer support is nonexistent at this point for Facebook / Meta. IF you get to a human, they can’t actually do anything to help you. You’re just SOL.

At least if I post to Instagram or Threads I wouldn’t lose access to all the business accounts (my own and any clients) if I have a single account banned.

I’ve not been in love with Meta products for awhile now but they are still a useful tool for business. As such, I no longer feel comfortable posting personally on Facebook specifically. The risk and stakes are too high.

I also have a business facebook page in my name that I may end up switching to as a result of this. Post to that and then share it to my personal account. That at least seems a hint safer for the moment. Ban the page in my name instead of me if I say something that triggers a bot.

If the TOS would let me have one business and one personal account, that would resolve things but Meta has always made Facebook focused on one single account.

But as with anything, things could change again.

Nov 12, 2024: I see where it looks like Instagram is bringing back its separate API again which would make it less “all one basket” tied to a single facebook account. https://developers.facebook.com/docs/instagram-platform/instagram-api-with-instagram-login/

But as long as I can’t create a second personal Facebook account for business Facebook Pages it still means that platform is too much of a risk to post on.
